Well my dears, 2012 is upon us already. Water Dragon Year beginning on January 23rd by the Chinese calendar. I have big and ambitious plans this year to complete some major mosaic/tile work at the Tile House. Video plans for proposing a kickstarter project are in the works as is some serious thinking about what I wish to accomplish and just what it will take. There is much ground to cover for mosaic work on the outside of the house as well as some roof repair. Materials include tile, thinset mortar, fused glass, handmade tile, bottles and found objects, broken bric-brak and smalti… Besides materials, some desert laborers, grouters and mosaic helpers would be grand.
I have six mosaic workshops planned this year , three on the coast in Santa Barbara and three in the Mojave desert in Wonder Valley.
Also asked to be an artist in residence for Summer Solstice Celebration in Santa Barbara. They said the Dragon year would be a busy one…looking that way… Bring it !!!
Yesterday I took this photograph of Queen’s Tears, a most unusual plant.

Thank you for your participation in the Joshua Tree National Park 75th Anniversary photo contest. The quality of the entries was impressive, as was the level of public participation in both the contest and the judging process!
We are planning to acknowledge all of our photographers and wind up Joshua Tree National Park’s anniversary year with an exhibition of photo contest entries at the Joshua Tree Visitor Center, which will open in December and be on view until the spring.
We have selected your photograph “Rock Wren” for the exhibit.

It’s been a month and a half away from the coast…new beautiful dog, Enzo is now part of our family, thank you Mita for the name… it fits! Art Cars came thru wØnder valley and stopped at the Tile House. Tempy Keller came all the way from The Jade Seahorse in Utila… sticking her tongue out at Mikal Winn‘s mosaic coyote…Hwy 62 Art Tours was an amazing success!! Best opening party with great music and less talk and more film… Actually fewer numbers of people this year at my studio, but much more spending… BEST year to date. Thank you Mayah for allowing me to use your kiln!!! Thank you Dana Bowden for matting my work and support!! Thank you Nurse Wanda and Lisette for making breakfast. Thank you Kimmy K for EVERYTHING !! Great to see old friends and of course the gorgeous desert skies were in rare form, with wind and rain and clouds. Then the septic tank had to be dug up and re-piped… oh the joys of country living! Don’t know what I would do without the help of Jerry Smith, the magician and wØnder man that he is… always coming to the rescue. Thank you Jerry!!! Grateful!!
A bit wet here in Santa Barbara and some branches down from the rainy windy night… exploring the new green turf… Enzo loves to eat grass… surely didn’t get much of that in wØnder valley…Click to view slideshow.

Slip casting in the desert is not without it’s challenges. The Buddha fountain is keeping the porcelain drying at a bit slower pace… this is a good thing. Preparing for Hwy 62 Art Tours… cranking the creative wheel… here is a preview… ENJOY
