Dolphins on Santa Barbara coastline

This is not seaworld. This is the great Pacific Ocean. The dolphins were swimming and feeding very close to the shore. At times there seemed to be 10 to 20 swimming along. It was a joyous site to see at 7:30 in the morning before my fiancé and I went to Los Angeles for a memorial service for David X Martinez. May his spirit be at peace and his living friends here on earth all be well. These dolphins are for you, David.

Homosexuality Common in the Wild, Scientists Say

As gay couples celebrate their newfound right to marry in California and opposition groups rally to fight the ruling, many struggle with this question: Is homosexuality natural?

On this issue, Nature has spoken: Same-sex lovin’ is common in hundreds of species, scientists say.
Roy and Silo, two male chinstrap penguins at New York’s Central Park Zoo, were a couple for about six years, during which they nurtured a fertilized egg together (given to them by a zookeeper) and raised the young chick that hatched.

According to University of Oslo zoologist Petter Böckman, about 1,500 animal species are known to practice same-sex coupling, including bears, gorillas, flamingos, owls, salmon and many others.

If homosexuality is natural in the animal kingdom, then there is the question of why evolution hasn’t eliminated this trait from the gene pool, since it doesn’t lead to reproduction.

Santa Barbara Acorn Woodpecker

Yesterday from Valerio and Calle Poniente was a Jackaranda tree full of woodpeckers. I caught this one eating an insect.

Tiles from a mural at The Biltmore in Santa Barbara

On the weekend, my fiancé and I took a guest to the Biltmore to see some of the work fiancé does there. I spied this gorgeous tile mural that had me just on my knees.

Call 1-518-474-8390 and say “I support the Governor’s directive on marriage equality,” then give them your 5 digit zip code. The opposition is gearing up and we need to let them know that they’re on the losing side. Go! New York Governor David Paterson has issued a directive that all state agencies must revise their policies to recognize same-sex marriages that were legally performed in other states and countries. This stamp was approved today. It’s a photograph of a ceramic buddha head I had exhibited in the Buddhas and Birds show in 29 Palms this past April at The Creative Center. Now it’s a stamp, for peace and compassion. Use it on mail art that needs an extra energy lift.
