The Smartest Man in the World is …you guessed it…gay.

This is an incredible article. The smartest man in the world is gay: Daniel Tammet, a 28-year-old autistic savant from the U.K., is teaching researchers worldwide about the complexity of our brain. But this gay man also has a thing or two to teach us about love. This article was in the advocate and can be read here.

Beautiful male lover takes a swim.

Sometimes we shorten it to BML. But really there is nothing like exclaiming to your partner, “Beautiful Male Lover, let’s …make lunch” or whatever. I have found this term of endearment to be quite dear indeed… and so for a year and half I have been BML as well as having a BML. …anyway try it out on your partner. If you have one, you should be calling them beautiful every day. Otherwise, why bother. And that goes for friends and single friends… works for everyone.dougpool3.jpg

Beatnik Cafe in Joshua Tree

After spending a wonderfully productive evening in Yucca Valley at The Pottery creating buddhas and snakes from clay with my friend Maya, by sheer chance we went into the Beatnik Cafe in Joshua Tree to find that they were showing films. FRANK ZAPPA, in a film called Baby Snakes. What a treat. Alot of claymation and madness and amazing footage of Frank and his band. The Beatnik does this every Tuesday night folks.

Concrete Bas Relief with Angel and Birds and Snakes

The new concrete work is currently being exhibited at The Pottery in Yucca Valley and at the gallery at Fi-Lox-See out in Wonder Valley. These were all created on Mesa School Lane in Santa Barbara. The materials were all schlepped from the desert to the sea and back again.

Concrete Bas Relief with Buddha and Roadrunner

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child – our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” Thich Nhat Hanh. I started making Concrete Bas Reliefs after a visit from my friend, teacher, and mosaic artist, Elizabeth Raybee. Elizabeth’s energy is always inspiring !!! Thank you. This is one of the first ones I created. It’s about 2 ft in diameter. After casting them and letting the concrete cure I painted them with nail polish and also goldleaf. Birds and buddhas and horses oh my…
